The Philadelphia Eagles released cornerback Darius Slay on Monday, according to multiple reports, including ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Slay will be designated as a post-June 1 release, with the Eagles saving $4.3 million against the cap.

Slay recently stated that he would like to play one more season.

"I got one more left," Slay said on the St. Brown Podcast. Whatever they want to do.  I might sign back, hopefully. I do want to play one more year, for sure."

Slay said he liked his time in Detroit, indicating that if the Eagles weren't interested in bringing him back, he'd be interested in a reunion with the Lions, where he played from 2013-2019.

"I love Detroit, I have nothing but love from Detroit.  That's my second home. I do a lot for the city still."

What does this mean for the Eagles in 2025?

There is a possibility the Eagles bring him back at a lower salary and cap number but have some options in the event Slay does not return for the 2025 season.  One option would be bringing back Isaiah Rodgers, who will be a free agent.  Cooper DeJean can move to the outside, or they could look at guys like Kelee Ringo and Eli Ricks in training camp.  The NFL Draft is another avenue they could look to replace Slay.

Slay has been with Philadelphia since a March 2020 trade in exchange for a third-round and fifth-round selection in the 2020 NFL draft.

In five seasons with the Eagles, Slay has accumulated nine interceptions and 56 pass breakups in 74 games, being named to the NFC Pro Bowl team three times. In the playoffs, Slay has appeared in nine games with Philadelphia, two Super Bowls, winning one. He has one playoff interception with Philadelphia.

Overall, Slay is a six-time Pro Bowler and one-time AP First-Team All-Pro with the Lions in 2017.

Detroit drafted Slay, 34, in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State. He has spent the first seven years of his career in Detroit, where he recorded 19 interceptions, and 347 tackles. The six-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro was also a member of Philadelphia’s Super Bowl LIX team.
