Eagles' best number: 5 (takeaways by Eagles defense)
Eagles' worst number: 22 (points scored by Commanders in the fourth quarter)
View from my living room:
I prepped for the game with a spirited game of tackle football in our den with older grandsons Hampton (8) and Graham (6). Our Christmas decorations are barely intact.
Three stars
- Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels (5 touchdown passes, including the game-winner with six seconds left in regulation).
- Eagles place-kicker Jake Elliott (4 field goals, including a 50-yarder that put the Eagles ahead).
- Commanders wide receiver Jamison Crowder (2 TD receptions, including the game-winner).
Eagles’ best play
Running back Saquon Barkley burst through a big hole on the left side and raced 68 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter to give the Eagles a 21-7 lead.
Eagles’ worst play
Quarterback Jalen Hurts hit his head on the turf at the end of a 13-yard scramble in the first quarter. He left the game to be evaluated for a possible concussion and did not return.
Turning point
The Eagles were in position to clinch the NFC East in the fourth quarter. They led 30-28 and faced a third-and-five on the Commanders’ 22-yard line with 2:07 left in regulation. Wide receiver DeVonta Smith dropped Kenny Pickett’s pass, forcing the Eagles to settle for a field goal that gave the Commanders one more chance.
