The Philadelphia Eagles continue to retool their roster this offseason after winning Super Bowl 59. General Manager Howie Roseman admitted to the media at the NFL Draft Combine that the team could not retain all of its Free Agents.

Most football fans are focused on how the Eagles are filling the voids of players such as Pass Rusher Josh Sweat and Cornerback Darius Slay leaving in Free Agency. But there are other positions that Philadelphia needs to fill that are just as important for the 2025 NFL season.

During the 2024 season, the Eagles Special Teams was a question mark. With Kicker Jake Elliott having statistically the worst season of his career and questions about who will be the Eagles' Kick/Punt Returner next season, Philadelphia has brought in some new players.

Eagles Making Special Teams Changes For the 2025 Season

After nine seasons and two Super Bowl Championships with the Eagles, Rick Lovato will no longer be Philadelphia's Long Snapper.

The Eagles have signed 10-year NFL Veteran Long Snapper Charley Hughlett.  Since 2015, Hughlett has been the Cleveland Browns Long Snapper and had played in every game each season until last year.

Charley Hughlett turns 35 years old ahead of this upcoming season. He played in 37 games during his three seasons playing college football at the University of Central Florida.

Philadelphia has also signed a new candidate to be the team's Kick and Punt Returner. Former Atlanta Falcons Special Teams Contributor Avery Williams has signed a one-year deal to join the Eagles for the 2025 NFL season.

Williams has been the Falcons Primary Kick and Punt Return Specialist for three of the last four years. He did not play any games in 2023 after sustaining a Torn ACL but returned to play in 17 games last season.

The addition of Williams could mean the end of the Britain Covey era in Philadelphia. Covey was being developed to be the Eagles' Punt Return Specialist and Slot Receiver until injuries derailed his career.

Last season, Covey did not appear in any games this final two months of the regular and postseason due to a Neck Injury that Team Doctors would not clear him to play in any games despite Covey practicing for weeks.
