Eagles’ Dallas Goedert has a Fractured Ankle
The Eagles injury list continues to expand.
On Monday Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said tight end Dallas Goedert was going to miss some time after leaving Sunday's game in the first quarter.
"It appears that he's going to miss some time," Pederson said on Monday. "Just don't have a timetable yet, but he is going to miss some time here with us."
Today it was reveled that Goedert will be out for "at least a couple weeks," with a fractured ankle, with the Eagles placing him on the injured reserve. The injury won't require surgery per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, but will keep him out for a couple of weeks, and at least three weeks.
Losing Goedert puts the Eagles an interesting situation. The team typically runs a lot of 12 personnel with two tight ends on the field at the same time. Without Goedert, do they stick to that plan, and if so, who fills his role?
The team has Richard Rodgers on the current roster and just added tight end Jason Croom to the practice squad and signed Hakeem Butler from the Carolina panthers practice squad. The interesting part here is that Butler was playing wide receiver, but the Eagles have listed him as tight end. He missed last season with a broken hand and was let go by the Arizona Cardinals.
The 6-5, 225 pounder was drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 draft by the Cardinals and had 60 catches for 1,318 yards and nine scores at Iowa State in 2018.
At 2019 combine, he ran a 4.48 40-yard dash, but has never appeared in a professional game.
In the event they choose to go to a three wide receiver look, that is another issue with Jalen Reagor out, Alshon Jeffery likely not ready to play and DeSean Jackson's status in doubt for this week.
Deontay Burnett, rookie John Hightown and second-year man J.J. Arcega-Whiteside didn't exactly give the coaching staff much of a reason to make them a bigger part of the game-plan, though Hightower did lead the unit in snaps.
Either way, losing Goedert is a huge blow to Carson Wentz and the offense. Goedert had 13 catches for 138 yards and a touchdown so far in 2020.
