Eagles Executive Alec Halaby Mentioned as Possible Jets GM Replacement
It’ll be interesting to watch how the upcoming NFL general manager hiring cycle will go down.
It seems every year, rival NFL teams are plucking from the Eagles front office and one name has already come up as a possible replacement to replace former Eagles executive Joe Douglas, who was recently fired by the Jets.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler expects Eagles assistant general manager Alec Halaby's name to be one of the names in the mix to replace Douglass in New York.
Several executives play a pivotal role in the roster building and culture of contenders, including Eagles assistant general manager Alec Halaby.
Halaby was elevated to the position in 2022 after spending six seasons (2016-21) as the team's vice president of football operations and strategy.
Halaby was mentioned among some other NFL front-office names including
- Bills director of player personnel Terrance Gray
- Vikings senior vice president of player personnel Ryan Grigson
- Texans executive vice president of player personnel James Liipfert
- Lions assistant general manager Ray Agnew
- Steelers assistant general manager Andy Weidl
- Chargers assistant general manager Chad Alexander
Interestingly enough Grigson and Weidl both worked in Philadelphia. Another name brought up by Fowler was Chicago assistant general manager Ian Cunningham, who worked under Howie Roseman in Philadelphia.
Current Jets interim GM Phil Savage also worked in Philadephia.
It's a testament to the job Howie Roseman and the Eagles have done, building the Eagles into a consistent winner in a league that promotes parity. The team has done a great job of working the salary cap, and other NFL teams want in on how they get that done.
So keep an eye on Halaby's name in the coming weeks.
