The Philadelphia Eagles finalized their initial 53-man roster on Tuesday afternoon, and it was an opportunity to talk to executive Vice President and General Manager Howie Roseman about some of the decisions.

After trading for Jahan Dotson last week, the team only kept five wide receivers, cutting ties with offseason additions Paris Campbell and John Ross on cut down day.

Many wondered how the Dotson trade came about and his role with the team this season. Roseman met with the media shortly after cuts and explained how that deal happened.

"There was an opportunity there to get the player," Roseman explained. Obviously give up a second day draft compensation, which is important for all of us, but we felt like it was worthwhile based on what we knew, what we thought that we needed, and made the trade."

With the Eagles top two wide outs set, the team needed to find a quality third option and now they feel they have one.

When it comes to Dotson, head coach Nick Sirianni is excited about his potential in this offense.

"Really liked him a couple years ago coming out, Sirianni stated. Looking forward to working with him. I think he helps our team and gives us an addition to an already deep room and excited to work with him. But, yeah, we're just really excited that we are able to make our team better."

So how does Dotson see himself fitting in and, and how does he view his role in this offense?

“By doing anything possible to help this team win, get in where I fit in, and make the most of my opportunities, make the most of my role, getting to know my role right away," Dotson said on Saturday. We have a lot of weapons, and I look at that as a great thing. You know, we have a lot of people who can make a lot of plays, so it's going to be fun. I've never, in all of my years of playing, been on a team with this much talent. I'm not only excited to play with them, I'm excited to learn, because we have a lot of great guys in the locker room from top to bottom. So I'm really excited for the opportunity.”

Dotson joins DeVonta Smith, A.J. Brown, rookie Johnny Wilson and Britain Covey in the wide receiver room.
