The Eagles have been shedding cash this offseason, allowing some key free agents to walk, but they have extended the contract of one of their franchise mainstays.

The team has agreed to extend the contract of 12-year Eagles veteran Lane Johnson for another year, through the 2027 season, giving him an additional $8 million over the next two seasons including an additional $30 million in guaranteed money.

Johnson, 34, is a five-time All-Pro and will now receive $48 million over the next two seasons, $40 million of which is guaranteed.

The Eagles do this deal with Johnson still playing at an elite level, showing no signs of decline, as the Eagles' right tackle.

Johnson is a two-time Super Bowl champion, winning a Super Bowl with both the 2017 and 2024 teams.  He is now locked up for the next three seasons with the Eagles, which should mean he will end his career with the team that drafted him No. 4 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma.

Johnson is the anchor of one of the top offensive lines in the NFL, along with Jordan Mailate, the former one of the best tackle tandems in the league.  Add in Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens and keeping Johnson in Philadelphia was a smart decision.

The 2026 season will be Johnson's 13th in Philadelphia, he has played for Chip Kelly, Doug Pederson, and Nick Sirianni.  He has won two Super Bowls and been an All-Pro five times.  At the end of this deal, he will be regarded as one of the best Eagles in team history.

When it is all said and done, he might be the greatest offensive lineman in Philadelphia Eagles history and will be sure to see his name in the Eagles "Ring of Honor" and potentially in Canton at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Who will play next to Lane Johnson in 2026?

In addition to Johnson, Mailata, Dickerson, and Jurgens, the right guard spot is again up for grabs with the departure of Mekhi Becton

It should be a battle between Tyler Steen and former first-round pick Kenyon Green, who was acquired in a trade from Houston involving safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson earlier this month.

Steen is in a similar position that he was in last year, likely entering camp in the pole position and trying to hold off a former first-round pick.  Steen had an injury during the 2024 training camp, which opened the door for Becton to win the job. Bectom was working mostly as a swing tackle early in camp, but was moved into the right guard spot with Steen sidelined and never gave the job up. This year, Green will be working at guard right away and will be given every opportunity to earn the position.

Either way, playing next to Johnson is likely to make either one of those guys better.
