Eagles Sign Arnold Ebiketie and Jonathan Jones to Bolster Defensive Depth
The Eagles lost edge rusher Jaelan Phillips to the Carolina Panthers, but added a pass rusher to try to soften the blow on Thursday night. Phillips signed with the Carolina Panthers, giving the Eagles a void at edge rusher.
Replacing Jaelan Phillips: The Arrival of Arnold Ebiketie
A Homecoming for the Former Temple and Penn State Standout
Ebiketie spent his first four seasons in Atlanta, getting 16.5 sacks while playing primarily as a situational pass rusher. A late bloomer, he spent his first four collegiate seasons at Temple before transferring to Penn State.
Now he returns to the Keystone State with Philadelphia in hopes he can add to the Eagles' pass rush that lost Phillips, but has Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith returning.
The team also added to its secondary after signing Riq Woolen on Tuesday. On Thursday night, Philadelphia added another cornerback, signing Jonathan Jones, formerly of the Commanders, to a one-year contract.
Strengthening the Secondary with Veteran Jonathan Jones
Jones, 32, played in New England for nine seasons before playing in Washington last season. He provides more depth to the cornerback room and gives them a veteran presence that can play both inside and outside corner.
