Eagles Sign Former First-Round Pick John Ross to One-Year Deal

The Eagles have lost a veteran wide receiver and signed another one.

Earlier this week, DeVante Parker announced he was retiring from the NFL after nine NFL seasons, now the team has signed former first-round pick John Ross, who participated in Eagles rookie camp on a tryout basis, to a one-year contract.

Ross was the No. 9 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft out of the University of Washington and was known for his outstanding speed, running a 4.22 40-yard dash at the combine. He hasn't played since 2021 with various injuries and actually retired from the NFL before opting to return.

He has just 13 receptions for 241 yards and one touchdown over his last two seasons.

Overall Ross has caught 62 balls for 957 yards and 11 touchdowns playing 37 games for the Bengals and Giants.

With Parker retiring, Ross might have an opportunity to make the Eagles 53-man roster with the team looking to add more wide receiving depth behind starters A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith.

He could compete with Paris Campbell for time in the slot, along with a bunch of younger guys like Ainias Smith and Johnny Wilson, who the team drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft.
