The Eagles entered the 2022 NFL Draft needing help on defense at the linebacker position and with the possibility of Jason Kelce retiring, the team needed to find his replacement.

They addressed both areas in the second and third round of the draft.

First with the 51st pick in the second-round,  the Eagles took Nebraska center Cam Jurgans.

Jurgans, 22, is a Jason Kelce type of player, who is on the smaller side and uses his speed, quickness, and athleticism.

Kelce commented on the selection of his possible replacement :

Next in Round 3, the Eagles took Georgia linebacker, Nakobe Dean.

Dean, a first-team AP All-American, who is considered one of the most versatile linebackers in this draft.

He recorded 72 total tackles, 10.5 for loss, six sacks, two picks, five passes defensed and two forced fumbles, for the Bulldogs in 2021.
