One More Move? Could Tyler Boyd Be a Fit for the Eagles?
We are less than one month away from the start of Philadelphia Eagles training camp, with players reporting on July 22 to the Nova Care Complex.
The Eagles are coming off a Super Bowl season, but lost five key players on the defensive side of the ball, and one on the offensive line.
The team has tried to replace each player either in-house, through free agency, trades, or the NFL Draft.
Key Defensive Departures and Their Replacements
With Milton Williams out, the team is hoping in-house option, Moro Ojomo, to have an impact along with fourth-round pick Ty Robinson. Replacing Josh Sweat, the team has an in-house option Jalyx Hunt, along with a pair of free agent additions, Josh Uche and Azeez Ojulari.
At the cornerback spot, Darious Slay is in Pittsburgh now, with in-house option Kalee Ringo and free agent Adore Jackson competing for his old spot. The team also lost safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and are hoping draft pick Drew Mukuba or holdover Sydney Brown can fortify that spot.
The Open Guard Spot: Who Wins the Battle?
On offense, guard Makhi Becton is in Los Angeles, with former third-round pick Tyler Steen the favorite to win that job against a trade pick-up, Kenyon Gree,n and free agent pick-up Matt Pryor.
ESPN.com NFL analyst Aaron Schatz proposed one final offseason move for all 32 NFL teams and thinks the Eagles need to look at a skill player on offense.
ESPN's Suggestion: Add Tyler Boyd
Schatz thinks the Eagles should add wide receiver Tyler Boyd, who spent the 2024 season playing in Tennessee with the Titans.
One thing the Eagles could use is more depth at the wide receiver position, particularly a slot receiver who can open underneath and convert third downs. Keenan Allen would fit, but we have him going to the Dolphins, so how about Boyd here?
Boyd's Resume: Bengals Years vs. Titans Struggles
Boyd, who registered 39 catches for 390 yards over 16 games in 2024, operated mostly out of the slot in the Titans' offense. His numbers were not much to look at, though he was dealing with a foot injury late in the season and was hampered by poor quarterback play in Tennessee.
Boyd did his best work in the Bengals' offense from 2016 to 2023, playing 120 games, grabbing 513 passes for 6000 yards and 31 touchdowns in Cincinnati.
Would Boyd be a good fit in the Eagles' offense? Would he be an upgrade over Johan Dotson? Let us know in the comment section!
