After a six-game points streak, the Flyers had lost back-to-back games with nothing to show for it in the standings. In each of the previous three games, they had scored just one goal in regulation. By the end of the first period on Monday, they already had two goals on the board.

Two goals in 28 seconds helped the Flyers jump to a lead they would hold the rest of the way, hanging on to defeat the New Jersey Devils, 4-2, at Wells Fargo Center.

Early in the game, the Flyers killed off a four-minute penalty to Rasmus Ristolainen, keeping the game scoreless against the NHL's second-ranked power play.

With 9:02 remaining in the period, the Flyers got a power play and immediately cashed in. Bobby Brink fired a one-timer from distance that beat Jake Allen to make it 1-0 with his seventh of the season. Just 28 seconds later, Joel Farabee put home a rebound for his eighth goal of the season to make it 2-0.

Through 20 minutes, shots were 9-8 Flyers.

The Flyers added to the lead at 2:49 of the second. Cam York's shot from the blue line was deflected in by Garnet Hathaway to make it 3-0 on his seventh of the season.

With under two minutes to play in the period, the Devils finally got on the board. Dougie Hamilton fired a shot that hit the post and bounced into the air. Travis Sanheim attempted to clear it and banked it off Sam Ersson's back and into the net, making it a 3-1 game with 1:13 left in the second.

Through two periods, shots were 22-20 Devils.

The Flyers mostly held the Devils at bay during the third period. The Devils pulled the goalie with just over four minutes to play and finally cashed in with 1:22 to play. Timo Meier scored his 15th goal of the season on a one-timer to cut the lead to one.

But in the final minute, Scott Laughton iced the game with an empty-net goal.

Ersson finished with 31 saves on 33 shots in the win. Allen made 22 saves on 25 shots in the loss.

Konecny, Laughton, and Ristolainen each had two points in the win.

The Flyers are back on the ice on Wednesday night to face the Devils again on the road at 7 p.m.
