The strange story behind this former Eagles quarterback’s arrest
Over the last 15 years, ten different men have started games for the Philadelphia Eagles at Quarterback. Two of those men had led the franchise to the first two Super Bowl championships in team history.
While Nick Foles and Jalen Hurts hold legendary status in Eagles history, other Quarterbacks like Carson Wentz and Sam Bradford invoke less positive feelings from the Philly Sports fan base. Other guys, such as Vince Young and Gardner Minshew, are less memorable for their tenures in an Eagles uniform.
But another less memorable former Eagles Quarterback is in major legal trouble after a bizarre incident that landed him first in the hospital and later in jail.
10-year NFL QB facing serious charges after altercation
After midnight on Friday, October 3rd turned into Saturday, October, 4th, the 38-year-old former Quarterback was involved in an incident with a 69-year-old man that landed both men in the hospital.
Mark Sanchez was in Indianapolis for the Raiders-Colts game and was scheduled to be a part of the Fox Sports broadcast on Sunday. According to multiple reports, the former NFL Quarterback was intoxicated when he had a confrontation with a truck driver over where the 69-year-old man parked in a hotel loading dock zone.
Sanchez and the older man would get into a dispute, which led the former NFL player to "body-slam" the truck driver. The older man proceeded to pepper-spray Sanchez and then stab him "multiple times". Media reports state that the former NFL QB continued to assault the man, who is 30 years older than him, even after being stabbed.
Sanchez is still hospitalized in stable condition but is facing felony battery charges along with misdemeanor charges. In addition to the criminal investigation, the 69-year-old truck driver has filed a lawsuit against the former NFL Quarterback and his employer, Fox Sports, for "punitive and compensatory of damages".
Selected as the fifth overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Sanchez played four seasons for the New York Jets as their starting Quarterback. He would go on to spend time with the Philadelphia Eagles (2014-15), Dallas Cowboys (2016), Chicago Bears (2017), and Washington Commanders (2018). He started 10 games for the Eagles, compiling 18 Touchdown Passes and 15 Interceptions.
Sanchez has been working as a game Analyst for Fox Sports since 2021. He was replaced by another former NFL Quarterback, Brady Quinn, on the Raiders vs Colts broadcast on Sunday. Sanchez is scheduled for a court hearing on November 4th.
Safe to say that Mark Sanchez will not be on this list of future Eagles Hall of Famers:
