Former Philadelphia Eagles Coach Doug Pederson Ready for His Next Opportunity

Former Eagles head coach, Doug Pederson, the only coach to ever win the Super Bowl for the franchise is ready to get back on the sidelines.

While he is ready for his next challenge, he admits it was a surprise and a shock when he was told he was being removed from the position.

Here is an excerpt from an article by Pat Leonard of the NY Daily News:

“Would I love to still be the head coach of the Eagles? Yeah,” he added. “But I’m at peace with everything, and I’m really focused and motivated for my next opportunity where I can take my mistakes, take the things I did well, and learn from and use them in the next job somewhere.”

There are sure to be a bunch of NFL openings this offseason for Pederson to choose from, and you can be sure he will be at the top of most of the teams lisys who have vacancies.

He interviewed for a few opportunities last offseason, in Jacksonville and Seattle, to be an offensive coordinator, but decided against it.

“I definitely wanted to also be a head coach again,” he added. “I didn’t necessarily want to come back into a coordinator’s job at the time.”

One other thing he addressed was the controversial way his final game with the Eagles ended. He pulled his starting quarterback, Jalen Hurts, with his team trailing by just three points entering the fourth quarter.

"I was coaching to win," Pederson said after the game. "Yes, that was my decision, solely. Nate has obviously been here for four years and I felt that he deserved an opportunity to get some snaps."

Many felt the team was trying to lose the game to gain better draft position.

He addressed that again in the NY Daily News article:

“You’re doing everything you can to win a football game,” he said. “And when the quarterback gets changed out during a game, things get scrutinized. But I sleep well at night. I’ll take it to the grave. We were trying to win that football game and that’s it.”

Well if anything he can always take to the grave that he was the first Eagles coach to lead a team to a Super Bowl.
