Friday’s Eagles-Bucs Injury Report Features Good News For Sunday
The Philadelphia Eagles will travel for the second straight weekend to Tampa for their third game against the Buccaneers in the last 13 months.
After the Eagles won against the Bucs in Week Three of the 2023 NFL season, Philadelphia was completely outclassed in their rematch during the Wild Card Round of the NFL Playoffs.
The Eagles got good news earlier this week when Starting Right Guard Mekhi Becton and Cornerback Darius Slay were back after practice. Both players sustained injuries during Philadelphia's win over the Saints but they have been on the field practicing since Wednesday.
Friday's Eagles Injury Report Brings More Good News
The biggest news coming out of Friday's practice was Wide Receiver AJ Brown was back on the field running with his teammates with his helmet on. Brown has missed the last two games dealing with a Hamstring Injury. In the last three games without AJ Brown, the Eagles Offense is averaging 15 Points Per Game.
On Friday's Eagles Injury Report, AJ Brown was listed as Questionable for Sunday's game in Tampa. The organization is taking precautions with Brown who has not played in an NFL since September 6th.
The Eagles ruling Wide Receiver Devonta Smith OUT for Sunday's matchup with the Bucs is not surprising. Smith sustained a concussion in Philadelphia's Week Three win over the Saints and he has not participated in any practices this week.
The other player listed as Questionable for Sunday's game is Right Tackle Lane Johnson. After leaving the game in New Orleans when he was diagnosed with a Concussion, Johnson has progressed through the week to allow him to be a Limited Participant at Friday's practice.
There are multiple steps to passing the NFL Concussion Protocol and Lane Johnson is much further along than Devonta Smith when it comes to recovery. Johnson still has to receive final clearance from Independent Neurologists and Eagles doctors before he is cleared to play the Bucs.
Keep in mind that the Philadelphia Eagles' Bye Week is coming up after the game in Tampa. The Eagles need players like Brown, Smith, and Johnson for the whole season so they do not want to rush these guys back to the field. They can use the Bye Week to give these guys extra rest instead of risking further injury this Sunday.
Buccaneers Head Coach Todd Bowles told the media that Defensive Tackle Calijah Kancey and Safety Antoine Winfield Jr. are “definitely out” for this Sunday's game. Kancey is one of the Bucs best interior pass rushers and Winfield Jr is considered by many to be Tampa's Best defensive player.
On Tampa's Injury Report, there are five players listed as Questionable including Starting Right Tackle Luke Goedeke and Running Back Bucky Irving. With Wide Receiver Jalen McMillan listed as Doubtful for Sunday's game and WR Kameron Johnson listed as Questionable, the Bucs offense will be lacking depth versus the Eagles.
The big name to keep an eye on heading into Sunday's game for the Eagles is Bucs Defensive Lineman Vita Vea. A Limited Participant at Friday's practice due to a Knee Issue, Vea is a key player for Tampa's defense and will be a challenge for the Eagles Offensive Line to offset his impact.
