Grayson’s Grades: Eagles lose to Broncos
PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Eagles blew a 14-point second half lead and suffered a 21-17 loss to the Denver Broncos. It is the first loss for the Eagles since late December of last year.
The Eagles had a chance to win it on the final play of the game; however, Jalen Hurts' pass from the 29 yard line fell incomplete in the back of the endzone as time expired.
After the game, the Eagles blamed themselves for the loss. They committed some bad penalties negating some positive plays. Also, for some reason Saquon Barkley had just nine touches in the game. One of them was a 17-yard run in the first half. The other was a 47-yard touchdown reception which gave the Eagles a 17-3 lead early in the third quarter.
There were some questionable calls and no-calls by the officials. The most egregious was probably on one of the final plays of the game. Jalen Hurts looked for Dallas Goedert down the sideline and Goedert clearly appeared to be interfered with at the 3-yard line. No flag was thrown and no call was made. It would have given the Eagles one or two plays from the 3-yard line to try and win the game. Another questionable play occurred early on when Cooper DeJean appeared to force a fumble as Bo Nix was about to pass. It was ruled a fumble on the field but replay overturned the call when there did not appear to be any clear and indisputable evidence indicating Nix's arm was going forward before the ball was knocked loose.
The Eagles do not have much time to get over the loss. They will visit the Giants Thursday night.
