Hall of Fame Quarterback Kurt Warner: ‘Maybe its more about the QB than the Coordinator’
The Philadelphia Eagles offense hasn't looked as dynamic as advertised so far in 2024.
The team made an offensive coordinator change, letting Brian Johnson go and replacing him with veteran play-caller Kellen Moore. Eagles fans were told the offense would be Moore's to call and design after head coach Nick Sirianni handed his playbook to Johnson to call in 2023.

As our buddy, Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports points out, while there is more motion in the Eagles offense this season, it's not at the level of a Kellen Moore run offense.
However, five games in, and granted some injuries have been part of the cause, the offense still doesn't look very fluid and Hall of Fame quarterback and NFL analyst Kurt Warner agrees.
The Eagles pass game still looks like a downfield first, with very few short, quick passes and very few options in the middle of the field. Everything tends to be outside the hash marks or down the field.
Look at the Eagles' scoring play with DeVonta Smith, a short crossing route that resulted in a 45-yard score. The ball was snapped at the Browns' 45-yard line, Hurts threw the ball to Smith, who caught the ball at the 40-yard line and it resulted in an Eagles touchdown.
With the talent the Eagles have at wide receiver, this type of play needs to be the norm. In today's NFL, tackling is atrocious, so allow your two best offensive weapons to catch the ball in short windows and make defenders miss. The team should have Hurts get the ball out quickly to Brown and Smith and let them get up the field.
The Eagles offense has plenty of talent, the offense needs to be centered around getting their plethora of playmakers in space and letting them make plays, not relying on Hurts to push the ball down the field, hoping for constant big plays. That's not to say the big play down the field, shouldn't be a part of the offense, but it should be more of a surprise than depended on every possession. The team also needs to get under center more and utilize the talent they have in the play-action game. Having Saquon Barkley standing next to Hurts is making their run game one-dimensional. If you have Hurts under-center, you can use Barkely's talent in play-action and use the big play down the field more.
They have the ability to a big-play offense that scores a lot of points, but need to do a better job of setting the big play up, rather than hunt for it every possession.
