The 4th of July will be here before we know it, and despite the fact that there are tons of professional fireworks displays that we can enjoy in Jersey, people are always curious if they can set off fireworks on their own.
There is something fun about enjoying your own personal little fireworks show in your backyard.

My neighbors, from time to time, set off a few fireworks in their front yard, and I'm not gonna lie, it's a lot of fun to sit out front and watch the street light up a little bit.

The fact of the matter is, fireworks are absolutely legal in Jersey, but there are rules and regulations that you have to follow.
What Fireworks Are Legal In NJ?
Things like sparklers, smoke bombs, and novelties like party poppers are all 100 percent legal in the Garden State.

Anything more powerful than that, though, and there's a little more regulation.
For example, ground-based sparklers, spinning wheel sparklers, and ground sparkler devices are legal in Jersey so long as they contain less than 500 grams of pyrotechnic mixture, according to NJ.Gov
What Fireworks Are Illegal In New Jersey?
Then there are the illegal fireworks, sure, they may be more fun, but you could bet on some serious trouble if you're caught using them.
NJ.gov states that any aerial fireworks are considered illegal in the state of New Jersey unless you have the proper permits, and the fireworks are going to be a part of a public display.
What Happens If You Get Caught Using Illegal Fireworks In NJ?
Some pretty serious consequences, according to Rosenblum Law.
You could get hit with 18 months of prison time, and be forced to pay fines up to $10,000!
And if you're merely caught with illegal fireworks in your possession, you could see a fine of up to $500 coming your way.
Trust me, I like fireworks as much as the next person, but please let the pros handle the fireworks displays, okay?
