Hundreds of 7-Eleven Stores Are Closing, But What About New Jersey?

For many of us in New Jersey, 7-Eleven is more than just a convenience store. It's the place you stop for a quick coffee before work, a late-night snack, or, if you're anything like me, a Coca-Cola Slurpee on a hot summer day.

That's why the company's latest announcement has caught the attention of customers across the country.

7-Eleven Is Closing and Converting Hundreds of Stores

The convenience store giant says it plans to make significant changes to its U.S. footprint.

The plan according to thestreet.com includes:

• Closing 200 underperforming stores permanently.
• Converting 350 locations to wholesale operations, where independent operators will continue running the gas stations.
• Closing another 95 stores because of franchise agreements, lease issues, or other contractual reasons.

Altogether, that's 645 locations that will either close or operate differently.

What About New Jersey?

At this point, there's no indication which specific stores will be affected, and no New Jersey locations have been announced for closure or conversion.

That means your neighborhood 7-Eleven appears safe, for now.

Still, it's something worth keeping an eye on, especially since New Jersey has hundreds of 7-Eleven locations serving commuters, beachgoers, and neighborhoods throughout the state.

Some Stores Could Use a Fresh Look

Let's be honest.

While many New Jersey 7-Elevens are clean and well-run, others could definitely benefit from a makeover.

A remodeled store with updated coolers, improved food options, brighter interiors, and modern checkout areas would probably be welcomed by many customers. If the company is investing in improving its stores while trimming weaker locations, that could ultimately be a positive move.

Just Don't Touch the Slurpee Machines

My biggest concern?

Please don't take away the Coca-Cola Slurpee.

Everyone has their favorite flavor, but mine has always been the classic Coke. It's one of those simple treats that instantly reminds me of summer road trips, stopping after the beach, or cooling off on an incredibly hot New Jersey afternoon.
