Jaire Alexander Won’t Travel for Eagles-Packers Matchup
New Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Jaire Alexander will not travel to Green Bay and will miss Monday Night's game against his former team, the Packers.
Alexander came over in a trade last Saturday with Baltimore, which sent a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Ravens for Alexander and a seventh-round pick.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter in a X post:
The team believes he still is acclimating to the defensive system, still recovering from a knee injury and it decided it was best for him to stay back to focus on his recovery and preparations for the remainder of the season.
The two-time Pro Bowler has not played well this season, being inactive for five of the Ravens' seven games. The team is hoping that having him reunite with secondary coach Christian Parker in Philadelphia will help rediscover his Pro Bowl potential.
Even with Alexander not playing, the Eagles still were likely to start Kelee Ringo at the cornerback spot opposite Quinyon Mitchell. One other option is playing another trade addition, Michael Carter III at slot corner, and bumping Cooper DeJean to outside corner.
Vic Fangio’s Thoughts on Cooper DeJean
"He's really a damn good nickel," Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said about DeJean. Probably one of the best nickels in the league, and we're playing him at corner in the base. He could play safety if we needed him to. He's a defensive back, but really, he's just a good football player."
Fangio admitted the team has considered moving DeJean to the outside, but has yet to commit to that idea.
"We considered it," Fangio said. But when you have one of the better players at a certain position, and it's an important position where you get involved more, you hate to take a really good player at one position to maybe not be as good of a player or as impactful a player at another position. But it's definitely something that we've talked about."
Would adding Carter be enough to make them reconsider it and actually do it? Howie Roseman's comment earlier this week might give us some insight into how the team is thinking.
"When you talk about Michael Carter, the guy has played at an elite level inside, so that gives you flexibility there," Roseman stated.
