The first NFL firing of the season happened on Monday when the Carolina Panthers parted ways with Matt Rhule.

The Panthers are 1-4 and are 11-27 since giving Rhule a 7-year deal in 2020.

One name to keep an eye on to replace him? How about Eagles offensive coordinator, Shane Steichen.

CBS Sports writer Jeff Kerr, a frequent guest of The Sports Bash, listed Steichen as one of six potential replacements, because of his work with Jalen Hurts

Hurts is fifth in the league in completion percentage (67.9), sixth in passing yards (1,359), second in yards per attempt (8.5) and eighth in quarterback rating (97.4) as the Eagles are off to a 5-0 start.

He also mentions the 37-year olds role in the Eagles No. 1 rush offense a year ago and his work with Charges QB Justin Herbert, who he worked with his rookie season.

The Eagles rank in the top five of eight major offensive categories, courtesy of Steichen. The 37-year-old offensive coordinator is getting a head coaching shot soon.

If the Eagles keep winning, you can expect more teams to look at both Steichen and defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon,  who had multiple interviews last offseason.
