Key Updates On Dallas Goedert’s Injury: Impact On Philadelphia Eagles
It appears the Philadelphia Eagles will be without tight end Dallas Goedert again.
The team's starting tight end injured his knee in the team's win over Baltimore on Sunday and is considered week-to-week. According to Eagles beat writer Jeff McLane from the Philadelphia Inquirer, Goedert is a candidate for short-term IR based on his recovery, but the injury isn’t season-ending.
Head coach Nick Sirianni said on Monday that the team is still gathering information on the injury, and added that Grant Calcaterra is ready to step up if he is needed.
"I think what Grant's done is give everybody the confidence in him that you can stay 11 personnel, Sirianni exained. You can still keep those plays in for Grant because he can contribute."
Goedert had a big play in the game catching the team's first touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 9-7 in the second quarter with a 17-yard touchdown catch. Overall in the game, he had three catches for 35 yards and a touchdown in the win over the Ravens.
Calcaterra has 17 catches for 216 yards in place of Goedert, who has played in nine games this season. Even though Goedert has missed three games, he is the team's third-leading receiver with 38 catches for 441 yards and two scores.
The team will likely have to make a decision on one of their reserve tight ends, with E.J. Jenkins and C.J. Uzomah both out of elevations from the practice squad.
One option without Goedert could be to lean more on the wide receivers, especially A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
"I think, if you go back last year, if Dallas missed a little bit of time last year, we kind of spread that around a little bit, gave A.J. a couple more touches, gave DeVonta a couple more touches, put four wide into the game a little bit more, said Sirianni. "
