The Philadelphia Eagles decided that health was more important than seeding, resting their starters on Sunday in a disappointing loss against the Washington Commanders.

Prioritizing Health Over the No. 2 Seed

After the Detroit Lions went to Chicago and beat the Bears, an Eagles win would have given them the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoff field.  Instead, the Eagles decided that resting their starters was more important to make a long playoff run, and ended up rolling with Tanner McKee and most of their reserve players, resulting in them being the No. 3 seed.

The Return of Lane Johnson

One player who has been out of the Eagles' lineup since Week 11 is starting right tackle Lane Johnson, but he could be ready to return to the Eagles' lineup this week against San Francisco.

Testing the Lisfranc Injury Before Sunday

Per McLane, Johnson will test his foot, and the team will then make a decision on his status for Sunday.  Fred Johnson has filled in at right tackle with Lane Johnson out and has done a solid job, but the team has always had much better success record-wise with Lane Johnson in the lineup.

By the Numbers: Why Johnson is Vital to Success

The Eagles are 18-28 in games that Johnson has missed since entering the league in 2013.

The Eagles will host the 49ers at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.  You can listen to the game on 97.3 ESPN with pregame coverage beginning at 3 pm and Merril Reese and Mike Quick call all the action at 4:30.
