LeBlanc Has Lisfranc Injury

PHILADELPHIA (973espn.com) - Eagles cornerback Cre'Von LeBlanc is dealing with a Lisfranc injury in his foot and is unlikely to be ready for the start of the regular season.

NBCSports Philadelphia's Derrick Gunn was the first to report on the details of the injury and an NFL source confirmed the diagnoses to 973espn.com.

LeBlanc was spotted by reporters wearing a walking boot and getting around the NovaCare Complex in a roll-about back on July 27, the first indication that an absence in which Jim Schwartz described as injury-related could be at least somewhat significant.

Later an NFL Network report described LeBlanc's injury as a sprained foot, certainly not ideal but far from the worst-case scenario.

Lisfranc injuries can be tricky, however. Jalen Mills was ultimately shut down last season and needed surgery for his own Lisfanc injury after an initial hope he could return to the lineup. Fast forward to this summer and Mills remains on the PUP list and hasn't been able to practice yet.

A Lisfranc injury affects the bones or ligaments in the middle part of the foot and can range from mild to severe.

The early indication is that LeBlanc could be back by mid- to late September in a best-case scenario, according to Gunn, with November being a more pessimistic timetable.

LeBlanc had been lining up as the second-team slot corner before the injury, behind either Avonte Maddox or Sidney Jones, who have been rotating between the left cornerback spot and the inside position on a daily basis. Rasul Douglas, meanwhile, has been holding down the RC position while Ronald Darby works his way back from a torn ACL suffered last season.

After LeBlanc was injured the Eagles brought in 32-year-old veteran CB Orlando Scandrick, who has extensive experience at slot corner.

LeBlanc was in the locker room a few times this week but did not reveal details on the injury.

EAGLES CHURN THE BACK END.

The Eagles were off Friday but Howie Roseman stayed busy churning the back end of the roster by bringing in two players: veteran safety Johnathan Cyprien and tight end Alex Ellis.

To make room Philadelphia waived two- back end defenders, safety Godwin Igwebuike and rookie linebacker Joey Alfieri, an undrafted free agent out of Stanford.

Cyprien, 29, missed all of last season in Tennessee after tearing his ACL during training camp. He had signed a significant four-year, $25 million deal with the Titans in 2017 but was ultimately released earlier this offseason after playing 10 of a possible 32 games in Nashville.

Prior to joining the Titans, the 6-foot, 225-pound Cyprien was a full-time starter for another AFC South team, Jacksonville, amassing 341 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions, and four forced fumbles in his first four NFL seasons after being a second-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Ellis, 26, has appeared in right NFL games with Jacksonville and Kansas City and has three career receptions. A Delaware native who played his college ball at Tennessee, Ellis is regarded as more of a blocking TE at 6-4 and 255 and joins a crowded position group that includes a legitimate star in Zach Ertz and an emerging one in Dallas Goedert.

Alfieri was generally paired with fellow undrafted rookie T.J. Edwards on the third-team nickel defense. Ken Flajole spoke highly of both UDFAs in the spring but the numbers game was always going to be tough for the former Cardinal star.
