For the third time, the XFL is officially back on Saturday.

Former Millville high school star running back Ryquell Armstead has found a new professional football home in the XFL as a part of the DC Defenders' 51-man roster.

The Defenders will open the season this Sunday against the Seattle Sea Dragons.

Armstead was a fifth-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars back in 2019. He had 35 carries for 108 yards as the backup for Leonard Fournette in 2019. In 18 career NFL games, the former Temple Owl has 188 yards rushing, 16o yards receiving, and two scores.

After a promising rookie campaign, he battled COVID-19 during the 2020 season, which eventually forced him to miss all but two games that season. He bounced around from Jacksonville to the New York Giants, New Orleans, Green Bay and back to Jacksonville before being drafted by the Defenders.

He rushed for 1,488 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior at Millville, which included a 337-yard game against Absegami.
