New agreement keeps popular transportation routes running in Ocean City
After a miserable winter in South Jersey, everyone is looking forward to the summer season. We are trading in shoveling snow and avoiding ice for sunny days at the beach and walking on the boardwalks at night.
But no one really wants to drive around the Jersey Shore Towns during the summer months. As if finding a parking spot is difficult enough, you are afraid to move your vehicle because you could lose the spot when you return to your house or rental property.
While some people make their plans around walking distance, riding a bike, or using a ride-hailing service like Uber and Lyft, some South Jersey Coastal Communities have a great alternative for visitors.
This South Jersey Shore Town Extends Contract with the Atlantic City Jitney Association
At the most recent Ocean City Council Meeting, the vote was unanimous to approve a new contract with the ACJA. The agreement will maintain the current Boardwalk Loop schedule that keeps Jitneys running in the evenings throughout the summer months.
The new three-year deal keeps the Jitneys in operation in Ocean City through 2028, and maintains the current rate of $3 per rider for one-way trips plus Children 5 years old and younger ride for free.
The Senior Center Shuttle will be expanded under the terms of the new agreement with the Atlantic City Jitney Association. The shuttle that brings Ocean City Residents 60 and older to the Community Center from their homes will now operate three days a week and continue to be free for senior citizens.
Over the years, the AC Jitneys have run service routes on other Cape May County Shore Towns such as Avalon, Stone Harbor, Sea Isle City, the City of Cape May, and The Wildwoods. But Ocean City is one of the few South Jersey Shore Towns that has a new deal to continue jitney operations for years to come.
