One of the staples of the Jersey Shore is the boardwalks on the islands. For both locals and vacationers, one of the highlights to visiting the Shore Towns is walking the boards, getting fresh air, and checking out the businesses along the coastline.

One of the most popular boardwalks in New Jersey is located in the state's southernmost county. Ocean City is on the list of the Top-Rated Family-Friendly South Jersey Towns, and thousands of people flock to that boardwalk every summer for over 120 years.

But any boardwalk that is over 100 years old is going to need infrastructure upgrades in the 21st Century. We now have news about what is new coming to the Ocean City Boardwalk.

A $4.2 million Upgrades is Coming to OC Boardwalk

The Ocean City Council voted 6-1 to approve the reconstruction of a half-mile section of the boardwalk, so the area will be ready for Summer 2026.

The project will include the following upgrades for the northern section of the Ocean City Boardwalk from 5th Street to Saint Charles Place:

*New Decks and Boards
*Replacing foundation pilings
*New stairs, ramps, and railings
*New Light Poles that are more decorative

There are over 75 businesses that operate on the Ocean City Boardwalk, but only three are located along the half-mile stretch that will be undergoing reconstruction.

There is no word on how this boardwalk project will impact Oves Restaurant (Open May to September each year off 4th Street), Gardens Plaza Condominium (between Park Place and 3rd Street), and Brown's Restaurant (Open April to October off St. Charles Place).

The Ocean City Boardwalk is one of my favorite things about New Jersey's southernmost county:

10 Favorite Things about Cape May County, NJ

The history of Cape May County predates the formation of the United States of America by about 100 years as it was one of the first counties established in what was originally known as the West New Jersey Provence. Cape May County's historical records go back as far as 1685 and the County was originally established in 1692. Cape May County has been a huge part of my life and that of my family's for decades, so I wanted to share with you my favorite aspects of the southern most County in the state of New Jersey.
