‘Not a lot of optimism’ Eagles WR DeVonta Smith Plays vs Ravens
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith will test his hamstring out before today's game in Baltimore against the Ravens to see if he is able to play in the game, however according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, there is “not a lot of optimism” will be available.
On Sunday, Eagles beat writer Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquire reports that Smith will test out his injured hamstring during warm-ups before the team decides on his availability.
While Smith did practice on a limited basis and is pushing to try and play, it seems he could use one more week to get his hamstring ready.
The team already ruled rookie wideout Johnny Wilson out for the game and elevated veteran Paris Campbell from the practice squad.
If Smith can't go the team could implement more of Jahan Dotson, who was acquired in a trade from Washington before the season but has made little impact in the passing game.
"Obviously the production, he hasn't had as many opportunities as probably we or he anticipated. But that's sometimes how these games go," Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore explained on Wednesday. Hopefully, as we keep progressing, those opportunities will present themselves. When we have had those chances, he's capitalized and done a really nice job."
Dotson has just 10 catches for 110 yards on the season on 18 targets after catching 49 for 518 yards last season in Washington.
The Eagles did get Britain Covey back last season to add some more depth to the position. Covey can man the slot with Dotson moving to the outside in the event that Smith can't go on Sunday.
