Ocean City High School Approves New Head Football Coach
On Thursday Ocean City Red Raiders head football coach Kevin Smith announced he was stepping down after 14 seasons leading the program.
A new coach has already been named and approved by the school board. Sean Matthews, who has served as the Red Raiders defensive coordinator on Smith's staff, was approved as the school's new head coach of the Raiders.
"Coach Smith changed my life 12 years ago when he gave me an opportunity when there weren’t opportunities in teaching," Matthews said on social media. Thank you for changing my life Coach."
Overall he has spent 12 years on Smith's staff, including eight years as the team's defensive coordinator. The team has qualified for the playoffs every season that he has led the defense.

Matthews played high school football at Roman Catholic and at the college level at Wesley College. Matthews was a three-year letter-winner at Wesley as an inside linebacker, and twice named team captain for the Wolverines.
He takes over a team that went 6-5 last season and 4-2 in the West Jersey Football League's Constitution Division.
He is a Health and Physical Education teacher at the high school.
