Flyers Sign David Jiricek to 2-Year Extension
Just three weeks ago, the primary move by the Philadelphia Flyers at the trade deadline involved acquiring a young defenseman in need of more development to reach his potential. David Jiricek, the former sixth overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, will remain with the Flyers organization.
Jiricek, 22, signed a two-year contract extension on Wednesday with a $1.5 million AAV.
Jiricek has appeared in 10 games with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms since being acquired in a trade that sent Bobby Brink to Minnesota. He has two goals and 10 points in that time.
Jiricek has 84 career NHL games with Columbus and Minnesota. He has two goals and 13 points in his NHL career.
The 6'4" defenseman is expected to remain with the Phantoms for the majority of the remaining schedule, including potential playoff games for Lehigh Valley. The Flyers are back in action on Thursday night against the Detroit Red Wings at 7 PM.
