Flyers Make 5 Selections on Day 2 of NHL Draft
With their move back in the first round of the 2026 NHL Draft, the Philadelphia Flyers gained some additional selections on Day 2, moving back into the second round and adding a fourth-round pick.
When everything was completed, the Flyers made five new selections on Day 2. Here’s a closer look at all of them.
2nd Round, 53rd Overall - D Brek Liske
It’s a great story. The Flyers’ first second-round pick has grown up as a Flyers fan despite being from Manitoba. And while his fandom likely endeared him to the Flyers’ front office, this is a strong pick at 53rd overall.
Liske is a do-it-all type of defenseman. He can be mobile, he can move well, he defends well, he has some offensive chops too, closing strong with 17 points in 18 games in the WHL Playoffs.
His skating is what needs the most improvement, but the Flyers have long felt they can work with players to improve in that area.
2nd Round, 62nd Overall - G Martin Psohlacek
The Flyers already have one Czech goalie who figures to be a key part of the present and future. And if the Flyers believe that Dan Vladar can be a mentor to those around him, this pick screams mentorship.
Psohlavec is a tall, lanky netminder, standing at 6-foot-5 and 183 pounds. Physically and stylistically, he almost sounds like another Vladar, and while there’s plenty of room for improvement and development, he comes with good form and athleticism to have a chance.
His skating will need work, especially his edgework and lateral movement, and his tools are raw, but with two goalies in the pipeline a lot closer to the NHL, this 18-year-old has time to continue to mold his game.
4th Round, 120th Overall - G Marek Sklenicka
Another Czech goalie that is going to need some work on his technique. Sklenicka has a solid 6-foot-3 frame and is another lanky netminder at just 170 pounds. His footwork is good, but he can use a lot of movement in making saves. He's athletic, but needs refinement. Just like three years ago, the Flyers go for two netminders to build out the goaltending pool, but this one will definitely require a lot of development.
5th Round, 136th Overall - F KJ Sauer
His draft year was injury-riddled, so his production numbers won't tell the whole story. Still, there's a lot of improvement needed with his skating and skill to amount to an NHL-level player despite his physical nature that is his identity. As a high-school player, there's plenty of runway for his development, but it will take a lot of time.
7th Round, 213th Overall - D Max Laatikainen
Another defenseman selected by the Flyers, this time more on the undersized side. He's the youngest member of this draft class and offers top-four potential with puck-moving ability. He needs a lot of time to mature, but this is a good project for a late-round pick.
