Top Prospect Porter Martone Signs Entry-Level Deal with Flyers
From the moment Michigan State suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the NCAA Regional Final, the watch was on for Porter Martone. The Philadelphia Flyers’ top prospect was expected to be making the jump to the NHL as soon as possible. The door is open for his debut to happen now.
Martone signed his entry-level deal with the Flyers on Sunday and is expected to make his NHL debut this week.
Martone was the Flyers’ first-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, selected sixth overall. He spent his draft season in the OHL as the captain of the Brampton Steelheads. In 57 games, he scored 37 goals and had 98 points.
This season, Martone opted to go the college route and joined Michigan State. In 35 games, including the NCAA Tournament, he scored 25 goals and had 50 points. Martone was also the captain of Team Canada at World Juniors, scoring six goals and nine points in seven games.
Martone’s college season ended on Saturday afternoon with a loss to Wisconsin in the NCAA Regional Final. Martone had an assist as Michigan State opened up a 3-1 lead in the third period, but Wisconsin rallied for two quick goals to tie the game and scored to win the game in the opening minute of overtime.
The 19-year-old winger, who stands at 6’3” and 209 pounds, could bring a boost to the Flyers down the stretch of their season. His size and skill combination helped him be successful at every level so far, and he appears poised to begin his NHL career.
