Injury & Roster Updates

  • Lineup Updates: Denver Barkey is back in the lineup for Nic Deslauriers. No other changes are expected. Travis Konecny is a game-time decision.
  • Starting Goalie: Dan Vladar gets the start for the Flyers. Vladar was excellent on Saturday, making 26 saves in the 3-1 win over Boston. Vladar has an 18-9-6 record with a 2.42 GAA and .907 save percentage this season.
  • Injuries
    • Rodrigo Abols: fractured ankle, out at least two months from Jan. 21
    • Tyson Foerster: surgery on right arm on Dec. 17, out five months.

Opponent Snapshot: Toronto Maple Leafs

  • Opponent record: 27-24-9
  • Special Teams Ranking
    • Power Play: 19.3% (21st)
    • Penalty Kill: 83.4% (4th)
  • Who’s hot?: William Nylander has seven points in his last five games. Auston Matthews enters on a six-game points streak, but has gone seven straight games without a goal.
  • Who’s in net?: Anthony Stolarz gets the start for Toronto. Stolarz has a 7-8-1 record with a 3.51 GAA and .885 save percentage.
  • Injuries: Chris Tanev and Dakota Mermis are both on IR.

Keys to the Game

  • A Fast Start: The Flyers have back-to-back wins for the first time since Jan. 6. They have a chance at their first three-game winning streak since Nov. 29. A fast start, and getting an early lead, would certainly help build confidence in this game.
  • Contain the Top Players: Toronto has struggled lately, losing three straight games and nine of their last 12. Recently, most of the offense has been powered by the usual core: Matthews, Nylander, John Tavares, and Matthew Knies. Containing the Leafs' top players, especially on the power play, could be the determining factor in the decision.
  • Shot Mentality: The Leafs allow more shots per game than any team in the league, 31.9 per game. The Flyers are near the bottom of the league in shots per game, but should be ready to put pucks to the net and try to make things happen. The Leafs allow for plenty of shot volume and the Flyers need to take advantage.

By the Numbers

  • The Flyers and Maple Leafs both have 27 power-play goals this season. The Leafs have reached that total in 30 fewer opportunities than the Flyers.
  • Toronto allowed 31.9 shots per game, most in the NHL this season. The Flyers average 25.4 shots per game, ranked 29th in the league.
  • The second period has been a struggle for both teams. The Flyers have a -13 goal differential in the second, while Toronto has a -16 goal differential.

Quotable

  • "He's finding those spots and that's the next level. I know he's working on his shot. This summer's a big summer for him. I remember coaching Quinn Hughes, over the summer he increased his shot 12 miles per hour, which is amazing. I think Drysie can get that shot a little bit harder, which he's been working on, and it's paid off. That was a hell of a shot." Rick Tocchet on Jamie Drysdale

X-Factors

  • Jamie Drysdale: Drysdale has found the scoring touch of late, with three goals in his last five games, doubling his season total. Six goals is one shy of matching his career high set last season, and his 25 points are seven away from his career high of 32 in the 2021-22 season.
  • William Nylander: Nylander scored for the first time in three games since returning from the break on Saturday. Nylander has points in nine of his previous 12 games. He did miss time with injury, including the only prior meeting against the Flyers on Jan. 8.
