Flyers vs. Golden Knights Preview: Lucky Seven
It's been two weeks to forget for the Philadelphia Flyers. Their win against the Anaheim Ducks on Jan. 6 came at a cost with two players suffering injuries. That started a string of injuries that hasn't stopped since. Combine that with a schedule that features multiple teams on hot streaks and a barrage of self-inflicted mistakes, and you get a six-game losing streak that has hardly been competitive.
The Flyers are looking to avoid a seventh straight loss, but will need to defeat a team on a seven-game winning streak. The Vegas Golden Knights have vaulted to the top of the Pacific Division standings, and made a trade on Sunday to bolster the blue line.
Game time is at 8 p.m.
Denver Barkey has three points over his last two games since being a healthy scratch on Wednesday. That doubles Barkey's production from his first 11 games. After picking up two assists in his NHL debut, Barkey had just one goal in the next 10 games.
Jack Eichel comes in on an eight-game points streak. He also has points in 13 of the last 14 games, including a two-assist game on Dec. 11 in Philadelphia. Eichel has six goals and 18 assists for 24 points in the last 14 games.
Sam Ersson is expected to start for the Flyers. Ersson entered in relief on Saturday afternoon against the Rangers, allowing three goals on 25 shots in the loss. Ersson has lost three straight starts and four of his last five appearances.
Adin Hill is expected to start for Vegas. Hill made 23 saves on 28 shots in a win over Toronto in his last start on Thursday. This would be just his seventh start this season.
Projected Lineups
Lineup Notes
- Flyers: Bobby Brink appears set to return to the lineup. Lane Pederson was recalled from Lehigh Valley as Rodrigo Abols was placed on IR. Hunter McDonald was also recalled, but is not expected to play on Monday.
- Golden Knights: Newly-acquired defenseman Rasmus Andersson could be in the lineup for his debut as a member of the Golden Knights. If he's not able to play, Dylan Coghlan would enter the lineup.
