As the Philadelphia Phillies look to make a push before the Major League Baseball trade deadline, some interesting names are starting to surface ahead of the July 31st deadline.

Phillies Add David Robertson to Start Deadline Moves

The team made their first move on Sunday night, without having to give up anything, adding veteran right-handed pitcher David Robertson.

While the team still needs to add another bullpen arm, they still need to add some offense to a lineup that lacks firepower and depth.

According to reports, one player they could have interest in is Boston left fielder Jarren Duran, a player the Phillies would love to land.

The Padres and Phillies would love to land Duran.

Duran, the MVP of the 2024 All-Star game, numbers are down this season.  The left-handed hitter is hitting .257 with a .322 on-base percentage with eight home runs and 50 RBI, a league-leading 10 triples and 16 stolen bases.

One issue with Durran this season?  He is a left-handed hitter who hasn't hit left-handed pitching this season. Overall, he has hit .210 with a .243 on-base percentage with just one home run in 75 games this season against lefties.

Outfield Targets: Duran, Robert Jr., Mullins, Garcia

Some of the other names that former MLB Jim Bowden from The Athletic mentions include Luis Robert Jr from the White Sox, Cedric Mullins from Baltimore, Duran, and the Rangers' Adolis Garcia.

They could chase center fielders like Luis Robert Jr. of the White Sox and Cedric Mullins of the Orioles, or they could go for a corner outfielder like Boston’s Jarren Duran or the Rangers’ Adolis García.

All of those guys add some intrigue to the Phillies lineup.

Adding Robert or Mullins to play in center field would move Brandon Marsh to left field to platoon with Otto Kemp, which would end the failed Max Kepler experience.

Duran could play left of center and Garcia, who has been primarily a right fielder, but has played 145 games in center and 16 in left during his seven seasons.

The other names to watch, per Bowden, are high-leverage, late-inning bullpen arms.

They could go big, trying to land Emmanuel Clase of the Guardians or Félix Bautista of the Orioles, or look to make a smaller deal for a late-inning reliever such as the Nationals’ Kyle Finnegan or the Pirates’ Dennis Santana.

Adding Clase or Bautista would give the Phillies a legit ninth-inning closer, while Finnegan or Santana could certainly close games or pitch in late-inning, high-leverage situations.

When Is the MLB Trade Deadline?

The MLB Trade deadline is Thursday, July 31st at 6 p.m.
