The struggling Philadelphia Phillies will look to wake up in Chicago tonight against Cubs left-hander Matthew Boyd at Wrigley Field. Boyd, a 2025 All-Star, is back in the Cubs rotation after missing just over two weeks with a left biceps strain and has a 6.75 ERA so far in two starts.

The news came down earlier that they will be without catcher JT Realmuto, who has been placed on the injured list, with Garrett Stubbs being recalled to replace him on the roster.  Stubbs is expected to split time with switch-hitter Rafeal Marchan, who has struggled at the plate this season.

Evaluating Garrett Stubbs’ Hot Start at Triple-A

Tonight, the Phillies will have made a change at the top with Kyle Schwarber leading off, Trea Turner and Bryce Harper as the first three spots at the top of the order.

Schwarber is playing left field, Harper is the DH.

Last night, they threw rookie Felix Reyes in the cleanup spot, and he will hit there again tonight and play first base.  He will be followed tonight by Adolis Garcia, Alec Bohm, Edmundo Sosa, Justin Crawford, and Marchan, rounding out the lineup on Wednesday.

Tonight’s Tactical Approach: The Backhus-Walker Tandem

With Taijuan Walker's first-inning struggles, Kyle Backhus will start for the Phillies as an opener with Walker pitching in relief, as manager Rob Thomson laid out on Sunday.

The Phillies take on the Cubs with the first pitch at 7:40 in Chicago.
