Today is the day: the Philadelphia Phillies are back in the Major League Baseball playoffs.  It begins at 2:00 p.m. in St. Louis against the St. Louis Cardinals.  The Phillies announced their playoff roster ahead of today's action.

Pitchers:

Left-handed: Jose Alvarado, Bailey Falter, Brad Hand, Ranger Suarez

Right-handed: Andrew Bellatti, Connor Brogdon, Seranthony Dominguez, Zach Eflin, Kyle Gibson, Aaron Nola, David Robertson, Noah Syndergaard, Zack Wheeler

Catchers:

J.T. Realmuto, Garrett Stubbs

Infielders:

Alec Bohm, Rhys Hoskins, Nick Maton, Jean Segura, Edmundo Sosa, Bryson Stott

Outfielders:

Nick Castellanos, Bryce Harper, Brandon Marsh, Kyle Schwarber, Matt Vierling

No, that does not mean that Harper will play the outfield.  He will remain in the designated hitter spot as he has for much of the season.

The Phillies roster contains two surprises in terms of depth: the return of both Hand and Sosa.

Both players finished the regular season on the injured list.  Sosa will face the team who traded him back in July.  Jojo Romero, who the Phillies traded to St. Louis for Sosa, is not on the Cardinals roster.

It is unclear if the Phillies would consider Hand for a high-leverage appearance.  Hand pitch to an 8.44 ERA in seven September appearances before hitting the injured list.  With no opportunity for a rehab assignment, they will have to judge outside of game play what situations he is best for.

Zach Wheeler gets the ball first for the Phillies, opposed by Jose Quintana.
