The Philadelphia Phillies are adding a pitcher that earned a win and a save in the 2024 World Series for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Walker Buehler Brings World Series Pedigree

Walker Buehler, 31, who was released by the Boston Red Sox early last week, has been signed by the Phillies according to ESPNs Buster Olney. Buehler was shifted to the Red Sox bullpen after going 7-7 and posting a 5.84 ERA and 1.54 WHIP over 112.1 innings in 22 starts for Boston.

He signed a one-year $21 million deal with Boston after helping the Dodgers win the World Series last year.

Tim Mayza Claimed from Pirates

The team also left-handed pitcher Tim Mayza off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Mayza, 33, began this season with Pittsburgh, posting a 2.89 ERA (3 ER, 9.1 IP) with eight strikeouts to one walk in seven games.

The left-hander was a part of the New York Yankees team that faced Buehler's Dodgers in World Series, closing out Game 4 in New York's 11-4 victory over LA.

Overall, he has a 2.08 ERA (ER, 4.1 IP) in six career playoff games.

Both pitchers are eligible to pitch in the postseason for Philadelphia if they qualify.

Both pitchers could factor into the teams bullpen with Mayza being an option to take over for Jose Alvarado,  who is ineligible for postseason play. Buehler did save a game in the World Series, but could allow the team to use a six-man rotation the final month of the season.
