Phillies Winter Meeting Notes: Phillies Unlikely to Bring Back Both Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estevez
It appears the Philadelphia Phillies bullpen will have a different look next season.
Most MLB insiders expect either Jeff Hoffman, Carlos Estevez, or potentially both relief arms to find new teams this offseason, but it's a long shot that both will be back next season in Philadelphia.
Some teams are looking at Hoffman as a starting pitcher, while it seems Estevez's market is starting to hear up as bullpen arms come off the board. According to ESPN's Jesse Rogers, Estevez could be the next arm to find a new team, with the New York Yankees at the top of the list of suitors. with the Phillies still a possibility.
Closer Carlos Estevez's market is heating up as the veteran reliever could come off the board by the end of the meetings. Now that the Yankees have cleared up some money, Estevez is a fit in New York, especially after the team lost Clay Holmes via free agency to the Mets. Toronto and Philadelphia -- the latter is where he ended the season -- remain possible destinations as well.
The right-hander came over in a deadline deal from the Angeles, posting solid numbers between the two clubs. Estevez had four wins, a 2.45 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 50 strikeouts in 55 innings this year between LA and Philly.
According to MLB insider Robert Murray from Fansided, Hoffman has a strong market, with some teams looking at him as a starting pitcher.
A guy that I’m under the impression has a pretty strong market is Jeff Hoffman. Teams are eying him as both a reliever and a starting pitcher.

Many MLB insiders have mentioned third baseman Alec Bohm's name as one to watch in a trade this offseason, and ESPN's Alden Gonzalez predicts he will end up in Seattle with the Mariners.
My prediction -- and that's all it is at this point -- is that Alec Bohm goes to the Mariners. Jerry Dipoto and Dave Dombrowski are two of the industry's most aggressive executives, and this pairing makes too much sense.
A report last week suggested the Phillies asked about one of the Mariners' starting pitchers, Logan Gilbert or George Kirby, in return for Bohm.
