An important player in the Rutgers College Football success during the 2023 season and a South Jersey High School Graduate will miss the entire 2024 season.

Rutgers Football Head Coach Greg Schiano announced on Tuesday that Senior Linebacker Mohamed Toure will not play this College Football season. The graduate from Pleasantville High School has suffered his second Torn ACL Injury in the last three years.

"It's sad," Schiano told the media, "(Toure) put so much work into getting ready for the year. But that's the game of football, unfortunately. There's things that happen. As a family we've surrounded him, we're supporting him, we will help him through the rehab and get him back and get him reaching his goals and aspirations."

The Significance of Rutgers Defense Losing Toure

After missing the 2022 College Football season, Mohamed Toure returned to the field as a Team Captain last season. The 6'2" Linebacker finished the regular season with the second most tackles of any Rutgers defender (85) and was a key player in the Football Program's first Bowl Game win since 2014.

Toure led the Rutgers Defense during the 2023 season with 9.5 Tackles for Loss, earning him a spot on the Butkus Award Watch List for this upcoming season. The award is given to the Best Linebacker in College Football each year.

Even though this injury is incredibly disappointing, Mohamed Toure will have the option to return for the 2025 College Football season. Toure has an extra year of eligibility thanks to the NCAA's ruling about the 2020 season being impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

During his time playing Football at Pleasantville High School, Mohamed Toure was an impact player on offense and defense. Toure's 10 Rushing Touchdowns in 2018 tied him for the fifth most in the Cape Atlantic League that season.

There was the potential that Toure would have a good season with the Rutgers Defense and give him the stage to audition for the NFL.  Here are other South Jersey High School Graduates who have played games in the National Football League:
