Report: Eagles Interested in Adding Josh McCown to Coaching Staff

As the Eagles offensive coordinator search continues, another name has potentially entered the mix - sort of.

According to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Eagles expressed interest in adding their backup quarterback Josh McCown to the coaching staff, and potentially as the offensive coordinator, but McCown isn't ready to retire.

The Eagles discussed with quarterback Josh McCown the idea of returning to the team in a coaching role, possibly as offensive coordinator, during his exit interviews, NFL sources told The Inquirer.

While it’s unclear whether the team offered McCown a position, the 40-year-old veteran told the Eagles that he wasn’t ready to officially retire from his playing career, a source said.

The interesting part of the report, is that McCown met with head coach Doug Pederson, GM Howie Roseman and Eagles owner Jeffery Lurie, something that usually doesn't happen.

Aside from meeting with coach Doug Pederson and general manager Howie Roseman, McCown also sat down with owner Jeffrey Lurie, according to a source. Lurie doesn’t typically meet with players immediately after the season ends.

McCown, 40, is an impending free agent, but apparently would like to play again next season. Many thought he would call it a career after tearing his hamstring injury in the second quarter of the teams loss to Seattle.
