The Philadelphia Eagles have begun their search for a new defensive coordinator by requesting permission to interview, Seahawks associate head coach Sean Desai.

The 39-year-old Desai's name has been brought out on The Sports Bash by various contributors, like John McMullen and Geoff Mosher, as a possible replacement for Jonathan Gannon, who was hired by Arizona to be their new head coach.

Desai served as the Seattle associate head coach after spending the 2021 season as the Chicago Bears defensive coordinator. One other name the team has been connected to for the vacancy, is Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.

"I'm naturally going to have things that I'm going to require the next defensive coordinator to do," admitted Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni on Thursday. "But I also know that I'm hiring somebody to do their job to the best of their abilities, and that's why I'm hiring them."

The Eagles also have Dennard Wilson, who served as the team's defensive pass game coordinator and DBs coach this past season, on staff as a possible in-house replacement, but it doesn't sound they are going to rush to make a hire.

"We want to get it done as soon as we can but not be in a rush," Sirianni explained. "I think that's the best way to say that is that we'll be diligent because we need to be diligent. And if it takes us interviewing nine coordinators, like we did with the running backs to get Jemal Singleton, we'll do that to get the best person that can help us be a good football team."

"And, so, timeline – no timeline. Are we working with urgency? Of course. Are we working in a rush? No."
