According to FOX Sports' MLB insider Ken Rosenthal the Giants are making a "strong push" to acquire Cole Hamels from the Phillies.

Rosenthal tweets that the Giants have $50 million coming off the payroll at the end of the season, so adding Hamels shouldn't be an issue.

One reason the Giants make sense?

They are still searching for a top-of-the-rotation arm to pair with Madison Bumgarner in a playoff rotation, per Jayson Stark. San Francisco have kicked the tires on both David Price and Hamels.

Yesterday, at least one new team emerged in the Hamels sweepstakes, with the Arizona Diamondbacks making a call to check in on his availability.  We also read reports that the Astors were making a big push late in the game to see not only how interested the Phillies would be in making a deal, but also remember Hamels must waive his no-trade clause to head to Houston.
