Saints head coach Sean Payton is back to work.

After finishing last in total defense and run defense, the most yards given up in a single season in the history of the NFL, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was "relieved of his duties."

Special teams coordinator Ken Flajole was also fired.

The Saints gave up a season high 52 to the Giants and 40+ to Carolina and Washington this season. A total of 454 points were allowed this season, second only to Tennessee.

The Saints were without head coach Sean Payton, LB Johnathan Vilma and DE Will Smith for all/parts of the season for their roles in the bounty scandal.

CBS Sports Jason La Canfora tweeted Thursday evening that he thinks Spagnuolo will "end up talking to Chip Kelly very soon."

Chip Kelly and the Eagles are all but done with their coordinator and assistant coaching search as only defensive coordinator and a few others remain.

Spagnuolo was a member of Andy Reid's staff 1999-2006 before coordinating the Giants defense to a Super Bowl in 2007. He later went on to a head coaching job with the Rams before being fired in 2011.

The Eagles also reunited with another former assistant in Pat Schurmur as he will be named the team's offensive coordinator when the full staff is announced.

Other names reportedly linked to the Eagles have been Ed Donatell, Todd Grantham and Kirby Smart.
