NFL insider Tabs Eagles Assistant as Head Coaching Candidate
Nick Sirianni already has a coaching tree, and it could continue to grow.
When your team wins, losing teams generally will come sniffing around to see if they can add some of the winning formula to their organization.
After the team's 2022 run to the Super Bowl, offensive coordinator Shane Steichen and defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon got head coaching jobs in Indianapolis and Arizona, respectively. After last year's Super Bowl victory over the Chiefs, offensive coordinator Kellen Moore got plucked by the New Orleans Saints.
Now, another coordinator could be a candidate to lead his own team if they continue to succeed.
Kevin Patullo: The Latest Candidate
In Philadelphia, as a coach, he’s already earned promotions and responsibilities, calling the plays this season after years on the Eagles staff in a variety of roles, including QB coach, WR coach, pass game coordinator, and assistant head coach.
NFL Insider Tom Pelissero says, “Two of Sirianni's last three coordinators (Shane Steichen and Kellen Moore) landed head-coaching jobs. If the Eagles keep winning, it only makes sense that teams will at least consider making Patullo the third.”
As Pelissero points out, the Eagles still rank in the top half of the league in scoring (23.4 points per game, 16th), thanks in part to an NFL-best 75% red-zone touchdown percentage, and they sit comfortably atop the NFC East at 8-2.
The Impact of Patullo's Potential Exit
If the Eagles lose Patullo, who many fans may be a fan of, they would be looking for yet another new coordinator this offseason, which would be the seventh different play caller (Doug Pederson, Nick Sirianni, Steichen, Brian Johnson, Moore, Patullo) since being drafted in 2021.
