Sixers’ Joel Embiid Listed as Doubtful for Monday’s Game vs Miami Heat
Philadelphia Sixers star Joel Embiis is listed as doubtful for Monday's game against the Miami Heat, due to an illness.
The 2022-23 NBA MVP has played in just two of the teams' 12 games this season, managing a knee injury and being suspended for three games for shoving a reporter.
With Embiid out, the Sixers have struggled to a 2-10 mark, losing eight of nine. The matchup with the Heat is the first time the two Eastern Conference foes will meet this season.
The Sixers have been off since Friday when Embiid tallied 20 points, eight rebounds and two assists in almost 33 minutes in a road loss to Orlando.
Embiid is averaging 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Monday’s contest will be the 10th game he’s missed this season.
Teammate Andrew Drummond was listed as questionable on Friday with an illness but did play in about 4-minutes in the game.
With Tyrese Maxey still out, rookie Jared McCain has stepped in and become the go-to scorer for the Sixers, scoring at least 20 points in four straight games and pushing Kelly Oubre Jr. to the bench.
The game is the first of four games this week with two on the road and two in Philadelphia, with games against Miami, Memphis, and an NBA Cup game against Brooklyn on 97.3 ESPN. The game on Sunday against the LA Clippers, James Harden's return to Philadelphia, will air on Rock 104.1
