Sixers Guard Jared McCain Suffers UCL Thumb Injury Before Training Camp
The Philadelphia Sixers haven't started training camp yet, but already have suffered a significant injury to one of their key players.
Jared McCain’s Injury Details
According to ESPN's Tim Bontemps, second-year guard Jared McCain suffered a UCL tear in his right thumb during a workout on Thursday.
UCL thumb injuries can range from a few weeks of recovery to months, depending on whether surgery is required.
McCain missed most of his rookie season with a torn meniscus in his left knee, but in 23 games averaged 15.3 points, shooting .383 from three-point range, making eight starts for Philadelphia.
Philadelphia’s Guard Depth Options
With McCain out, expect to see more of rookie VJ Edgecombe and Quentin Grimes. If they can get him signed, he is not expected to travel to Abu Dhabi with the team for their two preseason games with the Knicks.
According to Gina Mizell from the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers' first official offer to Quentin Grimes was a four-year, $39 million contract on Wednesday.
The team could pair McCain, Edgecombe, or Quentin Grimes next to Tyrese Maxey this season, giving the team some dynamic scoring in the backcourt.
The Seixers open their four-game preseason slate on Oct 2 against the Knicks and the 2025-26 regular season on Oct 22 against the Boston Celtics. 97.3 ESPN is your home for Sixers basketball in South Jersey.
