Sixers Clinch No. 7 Seed; To Host Magic in Play-In

The Sixers will host an NBA Play-in Tournament game on Wednesday Night at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, taking on the No. 8 seed Orlando Magic.

"They're a tough team," Sixers guard Tyrese Maxey said on Sunday after their win over Milwaukee. They have good talent, and they are well coached."

Philadelphia entered the day in the No. 8 spot in the East, but is now the No. 7 seed after their 126-106 win over Milwaukee on Sunday, coupled with Orlando's loss to Boston. Philadelphia and Orlando each finished the season with 45-37 records, but Philadelphia won the tiebreaker over the Magic to capture the No. 7 seed.

Wednesday Night Scenarios: Win and Advance vs. Friday’s Safety Net

The 7-8 play-in game will tip off on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. on 97.3 ESPN and Prime Video. Whichever team wins will take on the two-seed Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs. Whichever team loses will host a win-or-go-home matchup against the winner of the 9-10 play-in game between the Hornets and Heat on Friday at home.

That game would take place on Friday; if the Sixers lose on Wednesday, they would host the game in Philadelphia.

Life Without the Big Man: Navigating the Embiid Absence

The Sixers will likely be without center Joel Embiid, who was diagnosed with appendicitis and had surgery on Thursday in Houston. He is out indefinitely, and his status remains the primary storyline as Philadelphia attempts a deep run.  If the Sixers can win a few games, he could potentially return at some point during the playoffs.
