Former Brooklyn forward Trendon Watford has agreed to a two-year, $5.3 million contract with the Philadelphia Sixers, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Charania reports that Watford is ''set to play a potential key role in the Sixers rotation' this season.

Keith Smith Weighs In

As friend of the show Keith Smith points out, this could be a sneaky good pickup for Philadelphia, who need front court help. Smith mentions Watford is tough, a good passer, and added he is a good addition on a minimum deal.

Watford’s Career Numbers

Overall in 217 NBA games with Brooklyn and Portland, Watford has averaged 7.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 17.6 minutes per game while shooting 34.9% from deep.

He went undrafted in 2021 after a college career at LSU.

What This Means for Guerschon Yabusele

With the addition of Watford,  it appears Guerschon Yabusele tenure with the team is over. Per multiple reports, it looks unlikely that Yabusele will be back with the Sixers.

The 'Dancing Bear' as Yabusele was known during his time in Philadelphia,  was a pleasant surprise in his one season, playing in 70 games scoring 11 points, 5.6 rebounds, shooting 38% percent from behind the arch in 27.1 minutes per night.

Watford will likely fill some of the minutes Yabusele played in 2024-25.

This move still allows them to use the mid-level exception.
