According to reports, Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Avonte Maddox suffered a torn pectoral muscle during Thursday Night's win over the Minnesota Vikings, potentially ending his 2023 season.

It could mark the second straight season that Moaddox would miss time, leaving the team down two starting players on the defensive side of the ball with Nakobe Dean also out with a foot injury.

Maddox is a key play on the Eagles' defense, playing the nickel slot corner spot, he recorded 43 tackles with one interception, one sack, and three passes defensed in 2022, missing seven games with various injuries, and he has played a full season just once in six NFL seasons.

It's a big loss at an important position.

"That nickel position is such a marquee position in this league," Eagles defensive coordinator Sean Desai explained back in training camp. "There are so many matchup issues created there."

With Maddox down, it’s expected that backup Mario Goodrich could have a more significant role in the defense. Other potential options could be Josh Job, who started at outside corner in place of James Bradberry on Thursday Night, Kelee Ringo and Eli Ricks.

One other option could be moving Bradberry to the slot and using Jobe on the outside. Back in mid-August, during training camp, the team gave reps to Bradberry to the slot.

"We're just trying to find different matchups, different roles. It's about getting the best 11 on the field in different ways, Desai said.

Well, they might have to try him out in that position sooner than they expected.
